With her 11th harvest behind her, Kristie Tacey, whose original family name of Tessier was changed when the family emigrated, has used the skills she learned as a research biologist and applied them to creating artful wines. This Riesling is a hoot to have side-by-side with a classic German Riesling as the grape is just barely recognizable as being the same. This wine was left in contact with the skins for 24 hours, which gives just noticeable tannins, but mostly reinforces the beautiful aromatics of the Zabala vineyard in the Arroyo Seco. As the name of the AVA indicates, this vineyard is planted in a dry stream bed and the abundant sandy and rocky minerals make their way into the organically farmed vines. Time on the lees (the spent yeast cells that fall to the bottom of a vessel of wine) has given a layer of creamy texture to this bone dry, racy wine that is a great companion to Asian, or other intensely flavored food, but is quite delicious on its own.
