Owned and run by winemaker Ignacio Valdera, Bermejos is on the easternmost Canary island of Lanzarote. The conditions 80 miles from the African coast are extreme. An 18th-century volcanic explosion covered the entire island in lava and ash 15 feet deep. Consequently, each vine is planted in a hole, or “hoyo”, that breaks through that infertile volcanic crust in order to get to the organic matter that nourishes it. The wind is so ferocious that each hoyo is surrounded by rock walls for protection. Needless to say, the vines cannot grow up very high so the yields are minuscule but each berry is concentrated with fantastic flavors. Dry, high in acid and extremely refreshing, this pale pink rosado is crisp, tart with uniquely Canary minerality.

Plus, the bottle is a really cool olive oil bottle so save your cork!
