Below Bordeaux and equidistant from the Atlantic and the Mediterranean lies the Coteaux du Quercy, a new appellation in Southwest France. A cooperative of 33 growers makes wine from predominantly Cabernet Franc (up to 60%), combined with up to 20% Merlot, Malbec, Tannat and Gamay. This wine is 60% Cab Franc, 20% Malbec, 18% Merlot and 2% Tannat. Chalky clay soils and a blend of maritime and continental climates gives a long growing season, and frequent winds help keep rot from frequent Summer rains at bay.
