The precise blend of Rhône grapes changes year-to-year but is always based on Syrah and is the most similar I have found to fine, aged Northern Rhône of any wine in this price category. Andrea Mullineux, from the Bay Area, is the winemaker and husband Chris Mullineux, from South Africa, is the viticulturist. Andrea was named the 2016 Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast, and their Mullineux wines command an appropriately lofty price tag. Their Kloof Street line, however, offers great value. The grapes are 75% destemmed and 25% whole cluster pressed, and then fermented with indigenous yeasts, with punchdowns once or twice a day. Aged 11 months in 3rd and 4th fill French oak 225L barrels and 500L demi-muids.
