Joseph Swan was an icon of the California wine industry whose “Swan Clone” of Pinot Noir is now used by countless winemakers all over the state. It has stayed small and under-the-radar for most consumers but is a bye-word for elegance and understatement in the wine industry. Owner, winemaker and former son-in-law Rod Berglund has been in charge of every vintage since 1988. This wine is a blend of three estate vineyards: Trenton, Ritchie and Saralee’s. There is a bit of wood spice from the 25% new French oak, as well as floral notes from whole-cluster inclusion. This wine is full of flavor but will make an excellent accompaniment dishes of medium intensity.
