This 100% Sémillon is a very different expression of the grape than the Osa Major from our September 2023 case, with winemaker Mary Bradley employing a full week of skin contact during fermentation of much riper grapes to make a proper orange wine that gives nectarine and elderberry flavors compared to the apple flavors of the Osa Major. Mary is winemaker at Challen Winery and Grá, Irish for love (and pronounced grah), is her personal wine project dedicated to small production, single vineyard and minimal intervention wines. The aforementioned nectarine and elderberry flavors are framed in light tannins that also impart jasmine oolong tea, with enough acid to keep things lively without demanding food accompaniment, but would also pair perfectly with Indian and southeast Asian food.
