Domaine Audebert & Fils - 2018 Bourgueil Rosé (Cabernet Franc) - Loire Valley, France
Domaine Audebert & Fils (Oh-duh-bear eh Fee) is an organically farmed, family-owned winery that makes wines only from the specialty of their region: Cabernet Franc. Bourgueil (burr-goy) is in the middle Loire on the North side of the river and makes some of the silkiest and elegant reds of the Loire. The grapes are hand-harvested with 55% of the blend coming from juice “bled off” during the first few hours of fermentation of one of the red wines, and 45% direct-pressed from grapes picked earlier and specifically for making rosé. The fermentation is done in thermo-regulated tanks at cool temperatures, which makes a longer, gentler fermentation taking 30 days that allows subtle floral and mineral notes to shine. This is a bone dry, crisp rosé that has the touch of mandarin orange that I love in rosé of Cabernet Franc.
