Oakland wine maker Brett Hogan, whose Sauvignon Blanc was in a previous shipment, has worked at some of the best estates in France and California and makes wines that embrace the ripe fruit of California without sacrificing the elegance he learned in the Old World. The La Cruz Vineyard is in the Petaluma Gap area of the Sonoma Coast AVA where the chilly Pacific winds funnel through this low point in the Coastal Mountain Range and make this a very cool climate Pinot. Brett included around 15% whole clusters in the fermentation and aged the wine in about 30% new French oak. We were one of the first places to carry his wine, and in the 2 years since, there have been many placements at fine dining restaurants and I would not be at all surprised if Côte West someday became a household name. You can say you’ve known about him since the early days.
