Domaine Legrand, a pioneer in Saumur-Champigny, boasts a lineage rooted in viticulture since the 17th century. Today, Clotilde Legrand, the first female winemaker in the family, stewards the estate's 16 hectares of Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging 45 years old, and a small plot of Chenin Blanc. The vineyards thrive in clay-limestone soils, enriched by the region's famed tuffeau, a limestone that also forms the estate's historic cellars. The estate's commitment to sustainable practices is evident in its 40-year practice of grassing, promoting ecological balance. The tuffeau cellars, dating back to 1820, provide ideal conditions for aging, with consistent temperature and humidity. Winemaking emphasizes traditional methods, including manual harvesting and meticulous plot selection, yielding both vibrant, fruit-forward and age-worthy wines.  This Saumur-Champigny, crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc, undergoes 2-4 years of aging in French oak, with a third in new barrels, resulting in a wine of intense color and aromatic complexity. Expect to taste black fruits, dried fruits, and roasted nuances, on top of  structured tannins and hints of vanilla. Rich meats and stews will be ideal companions in the fall or just a plain burger or ribs in the summer.
