With the larger, one liter bottle (common in lower-priced Austrian wines), one might be tempted to dismiss this as a utilitarian crowd pleaser, but that would be wrong. The wine is estate-bottled by Erich Berger, who’s farming is certified organic. Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s signature white grape, and this unoaked version is crisp, with green apple (and skins), white flowers, honeysuckle, a touch of grapefruit, and more than a hint of the white pepper that Grüner is known for. Grüner works beautifully with hard to pair foods such as fish tacos or cruciferous vegetables.
