Catarratto is the most prevalent and important white grape in Sicily and is used in nearly every blend as well as for Marsala. Due Terre is a collaboration between Vito Lauria, Alcamo, Sicily-native and winemaker, and Catherine Stratton, American wine merchant. After graduating from the University of Udine with degrees in enology and viticulture and working for other wineries for a few years, Vito decided to revitalize his family’s defunct winery in 2005. Rekindling relationships with grape farmers who worked organically he began making his own wines under the Vino Lauria name and over time he also secured long-term leases on many vineyards in order to farm them himself. Catherine’s passion for wine and experience selling it in California and Oregon made an excellent complement to Vito’s local know-how and in 2018 Due Terre issued its first releases. Using only certified organic grapes, native yeast fermentations and minimal intervention in the winery, they exclusively make single-varietal wines of native Sicilian grapes. Pear, papaya and underripe white peach with notes of tarragon and mint. The moderate acid and long, clean finish would
