Côtes du Rhône Rouges are some of the world’s highest value wines because the palate of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault gives flexibility to winemakers to maximize what nature has given each vintage. In addition, these optimized blends issue from innumerable family-owned wineries that have long ago paid their last mortgage payment and have the benefit of generations of trial and error to guide the hundreds of choices that go into each bottle. Sebastian Jouffret, whose grandfather was one of the founders of the Tavel appellation (an appellation within the Côtes du Rhône dedicated exclusively to Rosé), within which the winery is located, is the fifth-generation winemaker of his family-owned estate. The wines are all sustainably dry-farmed, vinified and bottled (more cost savings) on the estate. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault, this is a classic Côtes du Rhône with balanced acidity, tannins, fruit, spice and minerality. Grilled meats, stews and aged cheeses would be well-paired with this wine.
