Bequeathed in 1985 by an heirless countess to her estate agronomist, Giuseppe Bianchini, brother and sister Paolo and Lucia are now the second generation of the family to take the reigns at Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona. Organic certification of their long-held pratices comes this year to these highly prized south-facing vineyards. Traditional winemaking with fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vessels and aging in large Slavonian oak casks gives a rich wine of 100% Sangiovese Grosso (the Brunello clone of Sangiovese) that holds up to intense dishes like Florentine steak.
