Montepulciano is one of the most confusing terms in wine. On one hand, Montepulciano is the name of a village and denominazione in Tuscany that makes a full-bodied wine based on the Sangiovese grape, while on the other hand (and in this case) it is the name of a grape used in the Marche region to make red and rosé wines in a broad range of weights. Some are full-bodied, serious wines with a price to match, but most often in this area we see the lighter, fruitier style that can take a bit of a chill and is a great match for grilled meats. This is the light red wine that was served at the kitchen unveiling open house Michelle and Eric hosted last Labor Day.
